This past Fall, we had the incredible privilege of partnering with The STEM Institute at CCNY and College Now to deliver a hands-on, high-energy engineering experience to high school students eager to dive into the world of STEM.
25 students embarked on an exciting 14-week journey to build electric skateboards while exploring the intricate design principles, prototyping, manufacturing, physics, and mechanics behind personal electric vehicles.
But the learning didn't stop there! We dived deep into Newtons Laws of Motion, electromagnetism, and material science. For example, the students compared the transportation sustainability between a car & the e-skateboard by mapping a local route around the campus and calculating the CO2 emissions from each option (and of course, got to ride the route on the e-skateboards).
This program exemplified the STEM Institute’s mission to enhance college readiness and provide diverse learning opportunities. Together, we not only equipped students with valuable STEM knowledge but also empowered them to think like engineers. Through the combination of technical skills and hands-on experience, these young innovators showed us what’s possible when education meets imagination.
We are proud to have played a part in this impactful program, and with registration now open for Spring 2025, we’re excited to meet the next group of bright minds ready to design, build, and ride their way into the future of STEM!
