The Raspberry Pi AI Camera is modeled after the Sony IMX500 Intelligent Vision Sensor. By combining a 12-megapixel CMOS image sensor with on-board AI processing, it runs a neural network model directly on the camera module, reducing the processing load on the Raspberry Pi itself. It augments captured images or videos with tensor metadata, enabling real-time object detection, navigation assistance, and performance tracking.

So how does the AI camera come into play? When the two are paired, they enable real-time object recognition, movement tracking, and automated responses like slowing down or stopping when detecting obstacles. It can also generate alerts for potholes or road hazards, enhancing automation. This data is then relayed to our custom microcontroller, VESC EDU, ensuring precise speed control, battery optimization, and remote monitoring.
